Signal Sciences Recognized as a Visionary in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Web Application Firewalls Two Years in a Row
We’re thrilled to announce that Gartner has named Signal Sciences a Visionary in the 2020…
In recognition of the massive innovation Signal Sciences has brought to the protection of web applications, APIs, and microservices, we’ve been racking up industry and customer awards for the last few years since bringing the technology to market. Today we’re announcing yet another milestone recognition for the company: we’re the leading Gartner Visionary in the Web Application Firewall (WAF) Magic Quadrant in our first ever placement in the MQ.
We’re the only vendor to place so highly in its first appearance on the Magic Quadrant for WAF and we’re thrilled and honored. This is a true testament to how much we’ve innovated and disrupted the industry since we launched the product what feels like just a few short years ago (though turns out it’s not so few!). This recognition follows on the heels of receiving the Gartner Peer Insights Customer Choice distinction for Web Application Firewalls based on reviews by actual end users of the technology where Signal Sciences has the only WAF rated a perfect 5 out of 5 across the hundreds of reviews (the next closest is legacy WAF is 4.6!). We’re also the only WAF to be both a Gartner Visionary in the MQ and a Gartner Peer Insights Customer Choice!
Here are key points that customers and analysts emphasize when identifying what makes our technology and business the future of where the WAF market is headed:
But metrics only tell part of the story. In their Gartner Peer Insight reviews, our customers repeatedly point out how blown away they are by both the ease of deployment and visibility our technology provides while stopping web layer attacks:
There’s no reason to buy a physical WAF when you can deploy this in minutes and be up and running.
—Director of Information Security in the Financial Services industry
First WAF that just works out of the box without rules creation.
—CISO in the Media Industry
The most advanced WAF protection available today.
—Director of IT & Operations in the Services Industry
Best product on the market, bar none.
—Manager of DevSecOps in the Manufacturing Industry
When we started Signal Sciences in 2013 we didn’t have a dream of building a slightly better web application firewall (WAF): we wanted to completely disrupt the space and challenge the industry to do better for customers. WAF technology hadn’t evolved to keep up with the rapid evolution of web apps and API architectures (e.g., cloud, agile, devops, and digital transformation). We learned how bad the existing WAF technology was first hand trying to get them running to protect the ecommerce web apps at our previous company Etsy. It didn’t take long for us to realize that the regex management and false positive frenzy that came along with these technologies could never scale and their architectures were not built to protect modern applications. A much more effective and cloud native approach was necessary.
We designed and launched a new approach to web application and API protection that is completely replacing and displacing the legacy WAF market. Our patented, flexible deployment model coupled with the power of our cloud engine for advanced web request context has essentially solved the false positive problem for our customers in a way no other technology has been able to match. This is particularly critical given how many breaches continue to happen via web apps! The Verizon DBIR industry report has shown that web apps continue to be the most breached part of company infrastructure for the last eight years running. We will change that.
And our best is yet to come as we’re far from satisfied!
Our recent launch of Envoy support exemplifies how we continue to extend our next-gen WAF’s protection of new cloud-native technologies. Envoy support is just the next innovation we’ve introduced to the space — and we have many more up our sleeve set to launch in H2 2019 and beyond including advanced bot detection, enhanced container and microservices protection and more. Stay tuned for updates!
As CEO and co-founder, I am extremely proud of Signal Sciences placement in this year’s Gartner Magic Quadrant for WAF. A huge thanks to Gartner for the recognition as well as our customers, partners and employees for working with and supporting us as we continue executing on our vision to upend the WAF market and protect the industry’s business-critical apps, APIs, and microservices.
